The Marseille festival opens the summer

Even before the festival of music, kicking off the summer festivities, the 24th Marseille festival is installed again this year throughout the city, from June 14 to July 6, 2019.
Since its creation, the Marseille Festival has been eager to offer an eclectic and original program, mixing several artistic disciplines, to destinations of several publics and in several places of the Phocean city.

For this 2019 edition, the programmers wanted to renew the event. How, today, to perpetuate a festival without turning in circles, without getting lost either, without tiring?

How to continue to offer quality and animations for the greatest number, but also local and international? How to continue making a festival made by and for the people of Marseilles?

Marseille is celebrating

The city will once again play with its diversity, its plurality and offer its residents and its visitors dance, theater, concerts, performances, cinema, meetings and parties. You will live, just like the festival, at the pace of Marseilles.

The opening weekend sets the tone, with international artists such as Gregory Maqoma, South African choreographer, who will present his choreography “Cion”, for the first time in France, which returns to Marseille after its participation in the festival in 2013 .

But also by putting the city and its inhabitants in the heart of the festival, with the Rite of Spring, which will be presented on Saturday, May 15 and Sunday, May 16 at Borely Park. His particuliarity ? There are more than 300 Marseillais, divided into about twenty different groups, who will dance. These amateur dancers, who have been rehearsing since November 2018, all work under the aegis of a different choreographer.

It is therefore styles, dancers, energies, different stories, which will end up forming one and the same collective work.
A beautiful illustration of what Marseille is: a shared space where imagination, diversity and solidarity reinforce each other.

And if these three weeks open with dancing, all disciplines will mix with the city, from the Belle de Mai to Mucem, through the Sunday of Canebière.
And Arte will even hold its big karaoke on July 4th, on the roof terrace of the Belle de Mai. Come grab the microphone, we’ll give it to you!

Take advantage of this early summer to discover, exchange, meet, share … The 24th Festival de Marseille invites the world to come and dance in Marseille!
